Major requirements:
In addition to the general University requirements and those for the B.A. degree, majors must
complete a course of study in their chosen geographic or thematic area of concentration.
Working closely with their adviser,
students majoring in International Studies design a curriculum that provides either a regional or a
thematic focus, as well as a global perspective in their area of interest. Additionally, students will demonstrate a third-year language proficiency appropriate to their area of regional focus. Total number of credit hours will include 77 in a regional or connected thematic course work, plus three years of language study (or its equivalent).
Minor requirements:
A student who wishes to minor in International Studies must complete 31 credit hours in International Studies and thematically connected coursework, and demonstrate a second-year proficiency in an appropriate foreign language.
Certificate Programs:
The University awards undergraduate certificates for language and area specialization to students who have completed the requirements for a bachelor's degreein any field. Students must complete 28 credit hours of area-appropriate coursework and be ableto demonstrate second-year language proficiency. Certificates are currently available in European Studies, Latin American Studies, Middle East Studies, Canadian Studies, and Turkish Studies.
